Football was developed in England and as a result England are the oldest national football team in the world, alongside Scotland. The two teams first played in 1872 and over the following forty years football between the home nations, England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales was the only football that England played.  Until the late fifties England were seen to dominate football and notoriously won the World Football Cup for the first and only time in 1966.  Since then they have come close and played in many World Cup finals but despite their team spirit and determination have never actually won.
