Batman was created in the early 1940's by Bob Kane who was commissioned by DC Comics to create a character as powerful and as popular as Superman.  For those who are unfamiliar with the story, Batman is Bruce Wayne; a teenager who was traumautised from witnessing the murder of his parents and vowed to avenge their death by bringing the criminals to justice.  With his vast fortune Bruce trained his body to athletic perfection, studied many books on criminology and acquired high tech vehicles and weapons to fight crime in his hometown of Gotham City.  Bruce Wayne first became Batman when he was startled by a bat at his window and decided to dress himself as a 'bat man.' Unlike Superman he does not have super powers, he is Mr Average Guy fighting for the oppressed and is therefore everybody's hero.
